I have no clue…

I once heard that if you had a dictionary by you when you were reading a book and stumbled across a word you didn’t know, you could look it up and it would stick with you because you took the time to look it up. Ever since then I have had my pocket dictionary (one I got from my previous college’s bookstore) beside me when I read. I love it! Being an avid reader, there are a few words I stumble across and just can’t use context clues to figure them out. This is such a simple task. Bookmarking your page, setting the book down, reaching over, grabbing a dictionary, look the word up. I (and this will sound strange) love doing this. I don’t know if it’s the mystery behind what I’m going to find when searching or if it’s just fun learning new definitions. One day I got so caught up in this that I actually read the dictionary. That’s not something I do on a regular basis. If you’re feeling dumb, read the dictionary. It helps!

You most likely think I’m the biggest nerd ever right now, but I assure you I’m actually not. Far from it. I wish I was a nerd. They don’t hardly stress over academic work. You know how I am with math. Illiterate. Moving on…

I don’t really know the moral of this story, but I just thought it was cool.

In life, if we stop and take the time to think about something small, it could be very rewarding in the end. Something as simple as looking up a foreign word in the dictionary or reading the ingredients on a food you are about to devour, could result in knowing it forever and when you land a spot on the JEOPARDY! game show you might win some money.

Silly, right?

Okay so I may have had a few drinks last night and can’t really think of anything to blog about, but I do know (in my tired haze) that I want to write something…

Oh! I do want to mention a neat movie I watched the other day. Yes, I’m well aware that I watch a lot of movies.

Salmon Fishing in the Yemen (2011, PG-13) starring Emily Blunt and Ewan McGregor. Good movie. It’s not your run of the mill movie so it’s a nice change from the usual action or romantic comedies I watch. I enjoyed it’s adventure, romance, and a sheik? Yes, he was great. The sheik was played by Amr Waked. I’ve never seen him in anything else I don’t think, but I enjoyed his character. I won’t tell you anything more about it because it can be predictable in some  (not all) parts and I’ll ruin it. So if you’re bored today…watch it. I gave it 6 stars out of 10. For movies with 7 stars or above, I’ll write a full review of it, but sadly for those I rate under 7, no.

Hope everyone has a great Sunday!

A real crowd pleaser

I watched one of the best “feel good” movies ever yesterday…and today. Yes, I watched it twice. Wait, 3 times. That’s besides the point. Anyways…

Not only does it have amazing actors and actresses in it, but the story line is everything great rolled into 1 movie. There’s romance, heartache, love, happiness, adventure, gumption. Every time I watch it, it inspires me. No one dies, no one has racy (way too detailed) sex. No one does drugs and gets caught up in a gang war. No one makes you want to slit your wrists. It’s just great! It takes place in 2 beautiful areas and the landscape is just breathtaking. While I watched it, I sat there thinking, “this is a really good movie.” That doesn’t happen often. I usually get antsy and bored pretty fast.

The only thing that would make this movie better would be if you watched it around Christmas time.

Alright, alright…it’s…drum roll please…The Holiday. The 4 main characters are just perfect for the roles they play. I am a little biased because the actresses are some of my favorites, but I promise it’s amazing. Cameron Diaz, Jude Law (yummy!), Kate Winslet, Jack Black; they truly bring the story to life. I’m sure almost everyone reading this has already seen it and is wondering “it wasn’t avatar” or whatever other blockbuster has hit since 2007, but I have different tastes than some people. I don’t like a lot of the movies that take the #1 spot at the ticket office. Most are overrated, although I did love The Avengers.

I don’t want to say anything about this movie because I fear I will give away all the good stuff so this post will be short.

It’s great from start to finish. It doesn’t drag out any scenes which is a relief. I will say this movie is good for almost any occasion. Date night. Girls night. Alone night. Family night. That’s what makes it even better. I rate this movie 10 out of 10 stars! Gold ones.

I am glad I bought it because I will be wearing it out in the future!

This movie has a little somethin’ for everyone! A romantic comedy without all of the totally mushy romance. It’s a win-win!

Hope everyone out there has a good night!

Redheads do have more fun

Since July 4th is right around the corner I figured I’d do a small blog on redheads! Well a few of my favorite redhead (mostly) celebrities that is. There will be 4 since it’s July 4th and all. Oh yes, I’m in the spirit. My favorites are all actresses and a few of them actually play in movies together. Amy Adams, Bryce Dallas Howard, Emma Stone, and Cynthia Nixon. I just watched one of Amy Adams’ movies today as a matter of fact. Leap Year. It’s such a great conservative romantic comedy! Great for the family. I’ll go ahead and list my favorite movie they played in while I’m at it. Maybe these will be suggestions if you’re looking for good movies to watch, but I’m sure most of the ones I’m about to tell you, you’ve already seen! Here we go:

1. Amy Adams…my favorite movie with her in it would be Julie & Julia. Meryl Streep is amazing in it as usual, but Amy seems to capture her character so well. She’s also great in Enchanted!

2. Bryce Dallas Howard…was my favorite in The Help. Even though she was by far the rudest character on there she played a great one! I absolutely loved her in The Village and Lady in the Water also. She’s great in M. Night Shyamalan’s movies.

3. Emma Stone…is my favorite in The Help also. She represented her character very well and is great in roles that are mostly conservative, adventurous, and spontaneous. She was also good in Easy A!

4. Cynthia Nixon…is in my ALL-TIME favorite TV show…Sex and the City (SATC). Her character seems to fit her perfectly and I just love her. I haven’t seen any of the other movies she’s played in, but I will tell you I have all of the seasons of SATC and all of those movies and she’s very talented!

Eventually I will most likely most a blog about my favorite actress of all time who’s in my favorite TV show of all time. I’m sure she isn’t hard to guess, but I won’t tell you just yet. It’s a secret. 😉

See y’all later…
